Give the gift of local while our apple gift baskets! We had a bountiful season in our apple orchard this year, and pecks of our beautiful apples will make a great gift!
Fresh Apple Care:
Did you know you can store apples up to 10 months in a cool, low temperature dry room, root cellar or garage. Wrap them in newspaper, paper bags or paper towels to help absorb excess moisture.
Alternately, they can be kept in the crisper of your fridge for 4-5 weeks.
Freezing Apples:
Wash apples, then cut them into thin slices with or without the skin. Layer them on a baking sheet, not touching eachother, then freeze for 15-20 minutes. Transfer to a freezer bag and freeze. These are great for baking all year!
Local food can be better for your health for a few reasons. To begin with, local foods often retain more nutrients. Local produce is allowed to ripen naturally, while food that travels long distances is often picked before it’s ripe. And food picked fresh and in season doesn’t have far to travel before being sold!
