Barrie Hill Farms Strawberry Handling Tips

You’ve made it out to our farm, supported local, and purchased farm fresh strawberries. Now it’s time to get them home! Here are some tips so you can enjoy your farm fresh strawberries longer.

  • When buying your strawberries, be sure to look for berries that are perfectly ripe. Strawberries don’t ripen further after being picked.
  • When you get home, before storing your strawberries, be sure to remove any berries that look spoiled, slimy or bruised.
  • Refrigerate your berries in a covered container packed lightly, UNWASHED with their green tops on.
  • Strawberries should be eaten within a few days, or frozen/preserved if unable
